Speaking of @FoxNews another celebrity playing Doctor. @DrPhil , can you say ‘exponentially contagious’, and fatal? Do you understand over 33,000 dead (that we know of), in under two months? Over 660,000 cases = next 5 countries combined? Any Shame? @Oprah, help? https://t.co/BhrEWlzQF4
Dr. Drew: "We won't get anywhere near 20,000 deaths!"
Dr. Oz: "Hold my green bean weight loss extract... What's the big deal if only 2-3% of people die???"
Dr. Phil: "Hold my bestselling psuedo psychology book filled w/ folksy yet nonsensical catchphrases..." https://t.co/7aMA4z1lLb
Oh look it's another charlatan who kills people with pseudoscience for a living.
The thing these guys all have in common is that they value money over people's lives. It's literally the core of their business. It's what made them rich. They're just finally admitting it out loud. https://t.co/fvm5q0jhED
360,000 people a year die from drowning, not swimming pools. But if swimming pools could come quietly into anyone’s home and drown them, we might as a society try to prevent it. https://t.co/zp0Yg0w8zv
None of these examples are virulently contagious. Yet this buffoon is adding to the pile of appallingly toxic and deceptive information that has been and is being spewed by Fox News. Its previous behavior is actionable, its current is depraved. https://t.co/9ZFfNl2wwc
When people listen to you @realDonaldTrump and go out too early and get sick, you’ll have more blood on your hands you can’t wash off! @senatemajldr blood will be on the entire GOP. People are dying!!!! https://t.co/G6vlypU52m
The thing about the Brooks column is, the only people who romanticize suffering are people who've never really experienced any. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is nonsense pablum. Suffering ruins lives and it's not inherently a character lesson.
I just tested positive for COVID-19. I lost my sense of taste about a week ago — a mild symptom, the doctor said. Quarantine has now turned into isolation. Luckily, taste is beginning to come back. The doc expects me to recover fully, told me to call if I have any chest pains.
Biden/Obama were a disaster in handling the H1N1 Swine Flu. Polling at the time showed disastrous approval numbers. 17,000 people died unnecessarily and through incompetence! Also, don’t forget their 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare website that should have cost close to nothing!
ESPN Sources: The NBA and NBPA have agreed on the withholding of 25 percent of each player paycheck beginning on May 15. Deal gives gradual reduction in salary should Force Majeure provision be enacted with cancellation of regular season games. May 1 checks will be paid in full.
Join us tomorrow for important discussions with @CAGovernor, @NYGovCuomo, and others leading the fight against COVID-19 about how the young leaders of #CGIU2020, and all of us, can work together to address this unprecedented challenge. https://t.co/Whl07w4qmL
Thank you to @Vivek_Murthy, @DeviSridhar, @MayorJenny, @kwistelle, @SyraMadad, Paul Farmer + Ophelia Dahl of @PIH & the student leaders of #CGIU2020 who are taking action to protect patients, people, and public health today and into our future. I hope you’ll tune in this Saturday https://t.co/ErMoL5BHgl
If experts tell you something is unknowable, don’t keep asking new people until you get a straight answer. Because in doing so you haven’t found the truth, you have found someone who wants your ear. 1/
Another good rule of thumb. It's likely that the first thing that pops into your head is something the experts have thought about before. Highly likely. Not a certainty (you could have a weird head...) but near certainty. https://t.co/MQpBof5lRC
Imagine if our president had announced a massive testing program yesterday instead telling states they’re on their own. https://t.co/xJQHOgWVBh
May 27 will be a huge day for human spaceflight, especially @Astro_Doug & @AstroBehnken (and @elonmusk). https://t.co/wqIaglXdTe
Hello fellow journalists!
I’m an Opinion editor at The New York Times. If you write about sports or tech or something sports or tech adjacent, and you have been recently furloughed or laid off, I may have things for you to write about! DM me.
Okay I know this probably isn’t going to get a lot of views but I just thought I’d show everyone how racist the kids at my school are. The girl’s name is Stephanie Freeman and she’s a senior at Carrollton High School. pic.twitter.com/jjsLtToSLH
Well. Here we are. I love my GA, and I know we’re better than this. Sadly i grew up in this shit and it was “normalized” behavior for a lot of us rural white kids. No one is born to hate. You’re taught it. Don’t make excuses for them either, or ur part of the problem. 💔 https://t.co/lSWJ6nnPfg
@realDonaldTrump Back off Cuomo, dude. He’s America’s President.
I FaceTimed with Fiona Apple for two & a half hours last week, and we talked about everything: the stories behind Fetch The Bolt Cutters, getting sober, her relationships w/ women, anger about decades of male-critic bullshit, & breaking free of her chains: https://t.co/Qmha3ppQar
@scottEweinberg It’s awful, Scott. I lost my dad when I was only 31.... but I was able to say “goodbye.” I can’t imagine what you’re going through but I’m so very sorry. You have my sincerest condolences.
Governor Cuomo should spend more time “doing” and less time “complaining”. Get out there and get the job done. Stop talking! We built you thousands of hospital beds that you didn’t need or use, gave large numbers of Ventilators that you should have had, and helped you with....
When you're a charlatan who sells snake oil for a living and profits off of killing people with false hope and lies, it's not an accident when you say the death of 2-3% of children is no big deal to you. The accident was you normally don't say that part out loud. https://t.co/Ix8t5QbshD
@DrOz You’re the one who is confused. The #FoxCult are venal liars who lie for $.
You said opening schools “may only cost us 2 to 3% in terms of total mortality. Any life is a life lost, but to get every child back into a school... that might be a tradeoff some folks would consider."
@DrOz Confused people? No. Not from what I heard you say. Though it seems You confused yourself by not reading the article fully to understand the context and then took it even further by suggesting 6-9 million dead would be acceptable losses.
@DrOz Whomever does your #botox should apologize for your eyebrows. Such a common mistake - dude! there’s! Nothing! to! make! you! so surprised! all! the! time! - #botoxgonewrong https://t.co/uIqY6yeuCG
Great marketing play here an a very smart use of social media.
I did a long piece on the film including a number of interviews with the director if interested:
So honored to be in the starting lineup...even though after this I head to the bench until the third quarter 😂 I wouldn't have covered the Bulls and been in this doc if not for @rjaffe1 & @sportsgeorge giving me the opportunities when I was a pup. Big thanks to them! https://t.co/lf0F0Nor1n
Editor: You get those photos of Elliott Gould and Grover? Photographer: Sure did boss, real fuckin sexy just like you asked. Editor: what pic.twitter.com/WbXJavjufu
• South Korea has a higher population density than the densest US state.
• Seoul Metro has about 170% the annual ridership of the New York Subway. https://t.co/kSapYa0TGL
The next time someone cites Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz or any TV doctor’s talking point that COVID-19 is merely the “flu” or like “car accidents” (a blatant red herring argument), just point them to the below chart. It unmasks the deadly rhetoric. pic.twitter.com/6Mq3pX5uw1
Fun Fact: Dr. Phil is not a medical doctor. He has a PhD in clinical psychology, but he currently has no license to practice psychology in any state. So not only is he not qualified to give medical advice, he technically isn’t qualified to give it in his own profession. G’night! https://t.co/s8YxSqJMdh
Fauci has got to be sick of this shit. It’s a testament to his leadership and selflessness that he puts up with it. Given the demo, he knows he can save some vulnerable lives by going Fox. https://t.co/tZfCd2xCKw
“Good evening, tonight we have two guests, one representing science and reality-based expertise, the other representing ignorance and fact-free toadyism. Let’s see how the conversation goes....” https://t.co/mr4XJLr6sR
We know you need some inspiration for those quarantine reads. We’re about to announce our latest class of @LATimes Book Prizes winners right here on this Twitter account at 8 a.m. Pacifichttps://t.co/bpfMcEu25Q
For the first time since launching in 1980, @latimesbooks hosted its annual Book Prizes ceremony virtually.
Follow along with their thread to find out who won this year's prizes and to get some quarantine reading inspiration. https://t.co/z1af0iLOH4
DR OZ: "Schools are a very appetizing opportunity. I just saw a nice piece in The Lancet arguing the opening of schools may only cost us 2 to 3%, in terms of total mortality. Any, you know, any life is a life lost, but ... that might be a tradeoff some folks would consider." 😳 pic.twitter.com/aifMeKTsIv
The Lancet study states "Recent modelling studies of COVID-19 predict that school closures alone would prevent only 2–4% of deaths, much less than other social distancing interventions."
he's an idiot and a huckster, but let's at least get what he's saying here correct: he's not saying 2-3% of children will die, he's saying there may be an overall increase of "only" 2-3% in the mortality rate for the entire population of the country https://t.co/J3Eps2eL9I
Has the "think of the children" cult, from Bethany Mandel to the FORMER NYT REPORTER, addressed how *the children* will feel after they accidentally kill their parents and grandparents? https://t.co/VQfUmjjuzY
I couldn’t believe a “doctor” would say that we should open schools because we’d only lose 2-3% *of people*. So I clicked.
And he indeed said that ✌🏽
Adding lancet link:
@DrOz Hi. You are the father to four kids. Let’s figure their grades have 200 students each. That means you’re “ok” with 24 total deaths among your kids’ four grades.
Think now. All things being equal/any child is vulnerable, you’re ok with those odds, Dad? https://t.co/OnerK963z0
he's a huckster, but let's at least get what he's saying here correct: he's not saying 2-3% of children will die, he's saying there may be an overall increase of "only" 2-3% in the total mortality for the entire population of the country https://t.co/J3Eps2eL9I
In the future, nobody should be allowed to have Dr. Oz as an on-air guest without the chyron "Thought the death of 2 or 3 percent of the nation's children would be a 'appetizing opportunity.'" https://t.co/dEkSH9wd3g
Then there’s @DrOz on @FoxNews talking about our children and acceptable loss of life at 2-3%. They should be made to multiply that into a population of over 330 million and say 2-3 million souls on air. Likely our loved ones. Of all ages. https://t.co/8Aiq4TWqY0
This ALLEGED human being is LITERALLY ADVOCATING A DEATH LOTTERY. 2 to 3% of mothers, brothers, fathers, sons, grandparents. He has to have read the numbers, he must know, given the inequities of our healthcare, who’s more likely to die. He’s advocating risking a 1 in 33 chance https://t.co/tMnBTlGBuc
R.I.P. Allen Daviau. Allen was the brilliant cinematographer on Defending Your Life. He also was a legend for other films like E.T., The Color Purple,, Bugsy, and on and on. He passed yesterday from Covid-19. He was truly one of the greats in his profession.
Trump says he's angry he wasn't told there was an epidemic: "And I was angry, because this should have been told to us. It should have been told to us early. It should have been told to us a lot sooner. People knew it was happening and people didn't want to talk about it." pic.twitter.com/XgWWaXAWTF
All corruption, all the time in Trump world. Republicans are co-conspirators, Democrats don't even attempt to stay on top of it, and journalists will reliably move on to the next shiny object. https://t.co/rOnIjuU15N
